This is perfect (@jessbellphotography)

…this photographer is nuts. Also probably worth every penny they charge. I keep finding more problems they had to solve to get these shots, my GOD.

Show some respect, people.

THANK YOU

The story of Balto is interesting. He led a team of sled dogs across the Alaskan wilderness in the dead of winter with diphtheria antitoxins to stop an outbreak in Nenana Alaska. Diphtheria is a deadly infectious disease that could wipe out a third of a town’s population. It is mostly unknown to the public today because of vaccines. Balto’s body is preserved in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

He’s a big hero of mine!

Let’s not forget Togo! Who, at 12 years old during the serum run, lead his team 200 miles through much more dangerous conditions during the first leg of the journey before Balto ran the last 55-mile stretch.

During World War II, 600,000 African-American women entered the wartime workforce. Previously, black women’s work in the United States was largely limited to domestic service and agricultural work, and wartime industries meant new and better-paying opportunities – if they made it through the hiring process, that is. White women were the targets of the U.S. government’s propaganda efforts, as embodied in the lasting and lauded image of Rosie the Riveter.Though largely ignored in America’s popular history of World War II, black women’s important contributions in World War II factories, which weren’t always so welcoming, are stunningly captured in these comparably rare snapshots of black Rosie the Riveters.

Reblogging because I’ve never seen these before, and I bet a lot of people haven’t.

But TBH I prefer the MIT Open Coursewear approach. Feel like taking a class on the policy and economics of nuclear engineering? MIT’s got you covered:

https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-topic/#cat=engineering&subcat=nuclearengineering&spec=nuclearsystemspolicyandeconomics

In fact they’ve got  you covered with A LOT of their courses, everything from fine arts to immunology.

Have fun :)

WHERE HAS THIS BEEN THE LAST TWO YEARS

The other day at the mall i saw a 15 year old sitting in a Claire’s piercing booth and it took every fiber in my being to not just grab her and take her to the actual, clean and sanitary and not guaranteed to fuck up your ears tattoo shop literally next door. Like I was frantic. Snakes manifested in my house

Piercing guns almost ALWAYS cause infections

They hurt more because they jam dull jewelry into your ear

Needles from a professional are designed to allow for minimum damage thus less pain.

The people working there literally have no idea what the fuck they’re doing and just guess it with a 1 hour training video vs a professional who trained under a mentor for at least a year and has a passion in the craft

They use bad metal for healings (copper, silver, etc) that can irritate ears. Surgical grade steel should be the only thing in your healing piercings

They put them on way to tight, causing swelling issues. Swelling is normal and piercings should be large enough to allow for that

They give you shit aftercare advice and cleaner (literally just buy saline solution at Spencer’s or hot topic for 8 dollars at the most and don’t touch them at all)

If done on cartilage it can LITERALLY SHATTER YOUR EARS

Please if any young girls in your family want their ears pierced take them to actual professional and don’t trust piercing guns. If a professional says your kid is too young (I.e a fucking baby) then trust their professional judgement. It costs more but you are getting essentially a art piece from a highly trained professional who knows what they’re doing vs a part time min wage employee who had 1 hour training on how to pierce ears.

I literally wrote an entire essay in college why piercing guns should be banned with pictures and my professor told me she was so interested in my topic and had no idea and even googled the topic herself out of curiosity and was horrified on the amount of damage they case

I am a licensed piercing professional and this is all sound and accurate advice. Get your piercings done by a licensed professional at a reputable shop. Not at the mall kiosk that uses piercing guns. Not by your friend who ordered a kit off of Amazon.

Association of Professional Piercers Aftercare Guide:

https://www.safepiercing.org/aftercare.php

Y’all, we’re not just talking a bacterial infection that makes your ear hurt for a few days. People can and do get hepatitis and other blood-born viruses from improper sterilization of piercing guns.

Go to an actual piercing studio. They don’t use an alcohol wipe to clean their equipment - they use an autoclave and/or single-use sterile equipment.

Not enough movies have massive terrifying underwater sea monsters being befriended in them, and they DEFINITELY do not have Julie Andrews voicing these monsters, so I thank Aquaman for giving me that for Christmas.

aquaman is a very kind film

when some fans ask arthur for a selfie while he’s at a bar, drinking with his dad, he agrees–even though he doesn’t really like people

whenever arthur saves people, he takes the time to address them in their language

when mera eats a rose, thinking it’s human food and offers one to arthur, rather than correct and embarrass her, he eats a flower too

when arthur sees his mom for the first time in decades, he doesn’t blame her for being gone, he embraces her and talks about how much his dad still loves her

when arthur retrieves the trident–finally becoming aquaman–he doesn’t fight his way through the guardian, he talks to her and it’s the first conversation she’s had in eons

and his reply to the guardian’s accusation that he’s unworthy, is that he doesn’t want the trident to prove his worth, but to protect the people he loves

the one time when arthur is not kind, when he lets black manta’s father die, he acknowledges that it was a mistake, and it comes back to haunt him in a very real way

and the climactic battle against his brother ends with arthur letting him live. he lets orm reunite with their mom because he knows atlanna loves both her sons and that orm loved their mother too

and he tells orm, who openly hates arthur, that whenever he’s ready to talk, arthur will be there

aquaman is a brash, unabashedly fun movie but it’s also very kind too

i hope you guys see it
