solidarity is not:

• speaking over black folks at rallies
• centering your cause in a discussion about black lives…
• …esp by appropriating the “black lives matter” campaign
• making black folks explain things to you
• or centering your feelings
• making distinctions between “good” and “bad” blacks/protestors
• telling us about your racist friends
• policing black anger/sadness/frustration

solidarity is:

• supporting and amplifying black folks’ work
• especially if you are able to do so with your financial resources
• actively and continually tackling anti-blackness in your own communities so black folks don’t have to (because we don’t have the power there that you do)
• continually reflecting on your own anti-blackness as an individual
• leveraging your connections and non-financial resources to support black work
• etc etc etc because there is so much more beyond showing up to rallies
